Annotation: It is known that Ibn Sina makes extensive use of Sufi terms in the final part of his work “Al-Isharot wa at-Tanbihat” (Hints and Reproofs). Therefore, some researchers have concluded that in this work of his time, Ibn Sina is justifying a religious view or is inclined to Sufism. This article, based on a detailed analysis of the most important passages of the work, shows that such an interpretation is not sufficiently justified. Because Ibn Sina interprets the concepts related to Sufism that appear in the last fourth chapter of “Al-Isharot wa at-Tanbihat” in his own way. In fact, his use of these concepts has almost nothing in common with the meanings given to them in Sufi literature or in the philosophy of “Sufi”. The article concludes that in the final part of the work, Ibn Sina presents not "Sufi" but a "philosophical interpretation of Sufism," which interprets mystical terms, phrases, and phenomena based on reason and logic.
Keywords: Ibn Sina, Al-Isharat and at-Tanbihat, the status of the ascetics, Sufism, the philosophical interpretation of Sufism.
