«DEVONU LUG‘ATI-T-TURK» MATNIDAGI HARAKAT BELGILARI VA TURKIY SO‘ZLARNING O‘QILISHI MASALASI

Author: Qosimjon Sodiqov

Annotation: In the manuscript of Mahmud Koshg‘ariy's "Devonu lug‘ati-t-turk," in some places, two diacritical marks are placed at the same time above and below a certain letter: fatḥa and kasra or ḍamma and kasra. Not only that, there are instances where a single word is written with two different letters at once. The placement of such diacritical marks and the dual writing of a single word is not without reason. These words were pronounced in two different ways in Old Turkic; alongside the written literary form of the lexicon word, another pronunciation, its phonetic variant in dialects, is also considered. This article discusses the phonetic function of diacritical marks and the simultaneous use of letters based on linguistic dictionaries, as well as the reading and phonetic transformation issues of Old Turkic words.

Keywords: old Turkish language, manuscripts, Turkish words, action signs, phonetic transformation, letter, sound, relationship between letters and sounds, phonetic variants of the word, dialectal forms of the word.
