Annotation: Since the second half of the 20th century, the concept of "Equivalence" has become one of the most discussed topics in translation studies. After centuries of literal translation or free translation debates, translation scholars have turned their attention to one of the key terms of the theory, "equivalence." In this article, the concept of "Equivalence" is examined in a comparative and critical way with its meanings acquired in the historical periods of translation theory.
