Annotation: This article examines the socio-political, scientific, and cultural environment of the 10th-century Islamic world and the factors that led to the formation of the "Ikhwan al-Safa" group. The author compares the group's approach to mathematics, philosophy of numbers, and methods of explaining the structure of the universe through numbers with the Pythagorean traditions of antiquity. The text also analyzes the Ikhwan al-Safa's connection of arithmetic to the "science of the soul" and theology, their attitude to the teachings of Aristotle and Pythagoras, and their own idealistic views.
