Annotation: Food is an integral part of the culture of a person and the society in which he lives. The unique features of national cuisine embody the ancient roots of the culture of one or another nation. When consuming a certain food or drink, a person involuntarily comes into contact with the culture of a certain nation. in this article, the meanings and semantic field of the morpheme "shí" in Chinese and Japanese languages were considered. First of all, the total number of the meaning of "shi" and the method of semantic expansion are determined by sorting out statistical data and many references. In these countries, food culture, daily life recipes, and their meanings were studied.
