Annotation: In this article, the author sheds light on the history of the study of Karakalpak folklore and the works of classics of Karakalpak literature of the XVIII - XIX centuries. Based on the analysis of folklore (fairy tales, legends, proverbs, poems) and historical data, the role and significance of Karakalpak folklore and the works of classics of Karakalpak literature of the XVIII - XIX centuries are revealed, their characteristics are presented. The article contains interesting fragments that are rarely found in archival materials.
