|ANALYZING ELLIPTICAL CONSTRUCTIONS IN ENGLISH AND UZBEK PHRASEOLOGY

Author: Raximdjanova, Latofat Zokir kizi

Annotation: This study explores the phenomenon of elliptical phraseological units in English and Uzbek languages, examining their structural, functional, and cultural dimensions. Through a comparative analysis, the research identifies the frequency, types, and pragmatic functions of ellipses within idiomatic expressions and common sayings. The findings reveal distinct syntactic patterns and cultural influences that shape the use of ellipses in each language. In English, ellipses are commonly used to emphasize, create irony, and economize expression, while in Uzbek, they reinforce communal values and cultural norms. The study underscores the importance of understanding these constructions for language learners and highlights the implications for effective communication and cultural competence. Future research directions include further exploration of dialectal variations and cross-linguistic comparisons with other languages rich in phraseological traditions.
