Annotation: The article presents information about the role of literary translation in literary studies and translation studies, its formation as an independent science, its relationships and connections with other disciplines. It also reflects the concepts of equivalence and adequacy in literary translation, a portrait of a literary translator, and the attitude to the problem of untranslatability in translation.
