Annotation: In this work, the contribution of the diffuse solar radiation flux to the illumination of the horizontal unit area on the Earth's surface is theoretically evaluated. The intensity of diffuse and non-diffuse solar radiation passing through atmospheric layers was calculated within Chandrasekhar's S,T-matrix theory, in which the effect of radiation reflection from the Earth's surface and the full spectrum of solar radiation were taken into account. The results of calculations provide a theoretical estimate of the annual solar energy resource of a horizontal surface located at a certain geographic latitude.
