Annotation: This article discusses the reasons for the use of euphemisms in speech, the dictionary meaning of the word euphemism, and the significance of the word euphemism as a language unit in linguistics. The relevance features of euphemisms are proven with the help of examples and researchers’ opinions. Changes of euphemisms over time, emergence of new groups of euphemisms are highlighted.
