Annotation: In this article, individual approach to teaching a foreign language is considered as a complex pedagogical phenomenon that determines the effectiveness of teaching a foreign language and involves the active role of the subject of educational activity. The main conditions for the implementation of an individual approach are differentiation, which is expressed in the assessment of the initial language training of the student, the setting of personally significant goals for him, the development of independent work skills and the ability to implement a systematic approach to mastering new knowledge.
