Annotation: This article analyzes the history of the spread of Shiism in the territory of Iran. Academician V.V. Barthold concludes that Shiism, in one form or another, serves as the ideological shell of peasant uprisings in Iran. In the 14th and 15th centuries, the popular uprisings in Iran developed under the religious motto of a fusion of Shiism and Sufism. In the Muslim countries of the East, the close connection of the state and law with religion was stronger than the situation in the Christian countries of the West. Any social idea is given a religious form here, even if it takes a secondary place in the people's actions.
