Annotation: Modality is one of the main categories of natural language - a linguistic universal that expresses the types of relations of a statement to reality and the types of subjective assessment of information. The category of modality is an active mental activity performed by the subject (author) to evaluate his ideas (modus) about factual information (dictum). Since modality serves to express assessment, it can be objective: by means of expressing a rational assessment in terms of the reality of the object, and subjective, associated with the expression of the author’s own attitude to the expressed meaning.
Keywords: Modality, category of modality, active mental activity, types of subjective assessment of information.
