Annotation: The study of the theory of functional grammar of the Russian language and its application in the audience makes it possible to deepen the understanding of grammatical rules and increase the effectiveness of teaching Russian grammar to students. The article describes the general position on the functional grammar of the Russian language, considers in detail the theory of functional grammar by A. V. Bondarko and communicative grammar by G. A. Zolotova. The current situation of teaching Russian grammar is analyzed, special attention is paid to such a question as a method of applying the theory of functional grammar in grammar lessons
