Annotation: This article analyzes theoretical and practical aspects of the process of assessing writing skills in secondary school students. The ability to write is considered not only in terms of linguistic norms and grammatical analysis, but is also assessed taking into account creativity, critical thinking and communicative effectiveness. The study discusses the cognitive foundations of assessment criteria and their impact on didactic effectiveness. Along with traditional approaches, a comparative analysis of innovative methods implemented using modern pedagogical technologies is carried out. Factors complicating the writing process, including psychological and socio-cultural barriers, are also considered. The article concludes with scientific and practical recommendations for optimizing assessment mechanisms and improving the quality of the pedagogical process.
