Annotation: The article examines current issues of state succession with regard to international treaties and membership in international organizations. It analyzes the theoretical foundations of the institution of succession, its types and forms, as well as the key international legal instruments governing this field. Drawing on the examples of the dissolution of the USSR, the SFRY, German reunification, and decolonization processes, the article explores the practical difficulties that arise when statehood changes. Particular attention is paid to the absence of universal rules governing membership in international organizations and the political dimension of decision-making in this area. The relevance of the topic for the Republic of Uzbekistan is examined in light of the special constitutional and legal status of the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
