Annotation: This scholarly article presents a comprehensive analysis of architectural terminology in the Spanish language, with a particular focus on its etymological roots, semantic evolution, and contemporary multifunctional applications. Originally confined to the specialized domain of architecture, many of these terms have undergone semantic shifts and now actively function in broader discourses such as politics, economics, the arts, and media. This transformation underscores the high degree of metaphorization within architectural vocabulary, influenced both by internal semiotic mechanisms of language and by extralinguistic factors related to socio-cultural change. The study examines ten key architectural terms that are of interest from the perspectives of lexicology, etymology, and cognitive linguistics. Special attention is given to the phenomenon of lexical borrowings from Latin, Arabic, and French, as well as to semantic derivation processes that enable technical terms to acquire metaphorical and conceptual meanings in both everyday and academic language. The article illustrates how architectural vocabulary functions as a tool for conceptualizing the world and reflects the historical and cultural memory of the Spanish-speaking community. Thus, architectural terms are viewed not only as structural components of professional language but also as significant cognitive-semantic units that contribute to the formation of a linguistic worldview and the expression of symbolic associations across various socio-cultural contexts.
