Annotation: In this article, the emergence of the field of religious studies, written works related to the field of religious studies in ancient times are presented. It is written about the contributions of Western and Eastern scientists to the development of the field of comparative religion. Especially from the Muslim scholars, we can learn that the works of Abu Rayhan Beruni served as a foundation stone for the field of Muslim comparative theology. In the Muslim world of the XI-XII centuries, a number of works were written on the study of the history of religions, various teachings, beliefs, and the field of Muslim comparative theology was formed as a separate science. The main difference between the works written in this period and the books written in the previous period is that there is a small proportion of refutation and criticism in them. Information about religions is covered mainly in an encyclopedic form. At this time, scholars such as Abu Rayhan Beruni (973-1048), Abu Muhammad Ali ibn Hazm Andalusi (994-1064), Abul Maoli Muhammad ibn Ubaidullah (d. 1092) and Muhammad ibn Abdulkarim Shahristani (1076-1153) studied the history of religions, beliefs, wrote works about their ceremonies. In the works of Muslim scholars on comparative theology, objectivity and impartiality were in the main place. When thinking about every religion and belief, it is almost impossible to find situations such as belittling them, underestimating their teachings, and rejecting them.
