Annotation: In this study, we used FeCl3·6H2O and ZnCl2 catalysts to synthesize 2-arylquinolines, and obtained products (4a and 4b) in 62 and 50% yields. The effect of different solvents (DMSO, DMFA, Benzene) and the amount of catalyst on the reaction between aniline, benzaldehyde, p-nitrobenzaldehyde, and acetaldehyde was studied. After the formation of a Schiff base with aniline and benzaldehyde during the reaction, acetaldehyde was added in the presence of the catalyst. The reaction mixture was purified by column chromatography (eluent-hexane:chloroform, 9:1).
