Annotation: The article is devoted to describe metalanguage functions of abbreviations and analyze them in the usage of graphic communication in the internet. Specifically, functions of metalanguage in linguistics, such as in the process using of shortened words, numeronyms, blendings and other types of abbreviations are discussed in the work.
