Annotation: This article examines the representation of the motives of Eastern mysticism in the works of Russian writers. The first appearance of oriental themes in the works of writers and poets from M. Lomonosov to I. Turgenev is noted, the peculiarity of the East–West dichotomy in Russian literature is investigated.
