Annotation: Theological faculties have played an important role in the history of Turkish education. In the history of Turkey, theological faculties have gone through periods of development and decline, and the process of establishing theological faculties can be divided into five periods: phase 1 (1923-1949) proclamation of the Turkish republic; phase 2 (1949-1959) opening of the Theology Faculty of Ankara University; phase 3 (1959-1982) opening of the Istanbul Islamic Institute; Phase 4 (1982-2008) transformation of Islamic institutes into theological faculties (The period of theological faculties); phase V (2008-2017) opening of new theological faculties.
