Annotation: This paper examines the influence of the first language, in this case - Russian language, on the process of learning Japanese by elementary level students. The main manifestations of inter-linguistic interferences at phonetic, grammatical and lexical levels are also analyzed. The theoretical basis of the research was the work in the field of contrastive linguistics and the theory of assimilation of a second language. It was found that significant typological differences between the Russian and Japanese languages cause persistent errors in the speech of students. The conclusion is that it is necessary to take into account the characteristics of the native language of the student in the development of teaching methods of the Japanese language.
