Annotation: The rulers of ancient China also used laws as a means of managing the administrative apparatus and officials. All dynasties established certain administrative laws and regulations regarding the establishment and operation of the administrative apparatus and the system of ranks of officials. Although in ancient China a wide variety of laws and decrees were issued together and were not differentiated, after the Tang Dynasty there were also separate administrative codes. This article attempts to chronologically analyze the development of socio-political terminology associated with the Chinese legal system.
